🌿 Arusha National Park: The Jewel of the North

Arusha National Park is a compact, highly scenic gem often used as a gateway or day-trip destination for Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. It is uniquely defined by Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak, which dominates the park’s diverse landscape.

Key Highlights:

• Diverse Scenery: Unlike the vast open plains of the Serengeti, Arusha features three distinct areas: the towering peak of Mount Meru, the wildlife-filled caldera of the Ngurdoto Crater (often called “Little Ngorongoro”), and the vibrant, alkaline Momella Lakes.
• Unique Activities: It is one of the few Tanzanian national parks that permits guided walking safaris and canoeing safaris (on Momella Lakes), offering an immersive, up-close experience with nature.
• Distinct Wildlife: While it lacks large prides of lions and concentrations of major predators (which are rarely seen), it boasts an abundance of herbivores. It is perhaps the best place to see the beautiful, rare Black-and-White Colobus Monkey and has one of the highest concentrations of Giraffes in Tanzania. Buffalos, zebras, and numerous waterbirds, including flamingos on the Momella Lakes, are common sightings.
